However, with this setup, you step the wall back one tile at a time to achieve a tapering affect.<\/p>\n<p>For this example, we&#8217;ll step the wall back every two studs. Though when I&#8217;ve used this design in a build before, I stepped the wall back much more gradually to give a large tower a slight taper:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/?p=1266\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/overview-85.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"524\" height=\"640\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A simple box with some brick modified with stud to attach SNOT plates serves as the core of the walls.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10250 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1-17.jpg\" alt=\"1\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1-17.jpg 720w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1-17-420x280.jpg 420w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1-17-250x167.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/1-17-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then, as you might expect, layered SNOT plates and bricks give a very simple base to achieve the steps.<br \/>\nWhere the design is a little less straightforward, is handling the corners.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10251 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2-4.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2-4.jpg 720w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2-4-420x280.jpg 420w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2-4-250x167.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/2-4-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In particular, the second corner set in this example required some fiddling with to figure out a good solution.<br \/>\nEventually I realized the assembly below fills the gap nicely.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10252 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3-2.jpg\" alt=\"3\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3-2.jpg 720w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3-2-420x280.jpg 420w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3-2-250x167.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/3-2-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As you can see here, the first row of tiles can just use a plate + brick + tile to give a nice flush fit.<br \/>\nThe second layer uses the panel + plate and a 1&#215;2 tile (or 1&#215;2 plate).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10253 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/4-2.jpg\" alt=\"4\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/4-2.jpg 720w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/4-2-420x280.jpg 420w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/4-2-250x167.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/4-2-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And the third and fourth layers can just use simple plates and tiles.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-10254 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/5-2.jpg\" alt=\"5\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/5-2.jpg 720w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/5-2-420x280.jpg 420w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/5-2-250x167.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/5-2-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Which when tiled over, looks like this.
