{"id":13461,"date":"2019-06-25T00:21:35","date_gmt":"2019-06-25T00:21:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/?p=13461"},"modified":"2019-06-25T00:21:35","modified_gmt":"2019-06-25T00:21:35","slug":"simple-round-tower-guide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/?p=13461","title":{"rendered":"Simple Round Tower Guide"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This was a requested tutorial and covers not only the basic tower design, but also how to make the floor, arrow slits, and battlements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main structure of the tower is made up of hinge plates and hinge bricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/1-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Two layers of six hinge plates make a connected circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/2-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And adding some slopes below the hinges makes buttresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/3-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/4-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next a layer of brick hinges is added, with a few 1&#215;2 bricks next to the slots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/5-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then a layer of plates is added to each 1&#215;2 segment, except for the lower slots. Those 2&#215;2 plates will be used to attach a cross brace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/6-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>A common issue with towers like this is getting them to maintain a proper circular shape, as without reinforcement the walls can easily shift into more of an oval. This assembly makes a solid cross brace for this diameter tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/7-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/8-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The above assembly is placed in the slots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/9-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>While a second identical cross brace assembly running opposite the first makes sure the tower keeps its shape. The 2&#215;2 bricks lock the first brace solidly into place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/10-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And here is the floor assembly. The 1&#215;2 plates go under the bracket to make it one brick tall. There is a more detailed look at the floor assembly later in the tutorial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/11-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The floor sits in place like this, and rests securely on the studs of the upper cross brace and 2&#215;2 bricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/12.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Next more 1&#215;2 bricks are added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And another layer of hinge bricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/14.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Now we can add some arrow slits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Which use brick modified with stud, 1&#215;2 plates, and 1&#215;2 tiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/16.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The regular walls have more 1&#215;2 bricks added to get them to matching height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/17.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After which more hinge bricks lock everything together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/18.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Topped by hinge plates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/19.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Inverted slopes work well below the battlements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/20.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And to keep things nice and sturdy one final layer of hinge plates is attached.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/21.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This floor is identical to the first one shown, but built in reddish brown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And using the opposite direction of 1&#215;2 bracket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/23.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The round nubs of the hinge plates support the floor&#8217;s edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/24.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Add some 1&#215;2 plates in bley around the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/25.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>And 1&#215;2 tiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/26.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Every other inverted slope gets an assembly made of 1&#215;2 plates and 1&#215;2 bricks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/27.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/28.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Then this group of parts fills the gaps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>1&#215;2 cheese slopes go on top of the 1&#215;1 brick with stud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/32.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have 1&#215;3 jumper plates, you can use a 1&#215;2 jumper plate like shown here to attach the three stud wide battlements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/33.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>1&#215;3 jumper plates make for a sturdier connection though, as they can be placed over the 1&#215;2 plate and still give a half stud offset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brickbuilt.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/34.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"720\" height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Which completes the tower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure height=\"480\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course you would normally make the tower a bit taller, but the same designs can be repeated easily for additional floors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure
