Here’s a look at the build process of my “Nightmare<\/a>” creation from the beginning of 2016.<\/p>\n

I started off by laying out how much water I would want, and the shaping of the cliffs. To give the best presentation, I decided to step them towards the back, and also thought I would try something I hadn’t with rockwork before, and angle some of the slopes. In fitting with the nightmare setting, the water was intended to look very dark and foreboding; thus, I chose black for the color under the trans clear.<\/p>\n

The majority of the build was rockwork, and it progressed steadily. Nearing the top I started to transition to light bley, to simulate drier rocks.<\/p>\n

Here the rockwork is nearly completed.<\/p>\n

After a lot of filler bricking, and ground layering, I’m ready to start on the rest of the landscape. Continuing with the nightmarish mood, the grass was dark green and the dirt beneath dark brown.<\/p>\n

The next thing to build were the monsters; my character was being chased by giant spiders towards the edge of the cliff, where there was a kraken waiting for dinner in the water below. Building brick-built creatures was something I hadn’t really ventured into before, so these were a bit of a challenge. In the end I’m pretty pleased with how they turned out, though it is a little hard to see the details of them due to their black colorscheme.<\/p>\n

After building the mountainous background, water, and a few other finishing details, the build was completed.<\/p>\n
