“Hello!<\/em><\/p>\n

Today\u00a0I\u00a0am\u00a0sharing\u00a0my\u00a0hut\u00a0roof\u00a0design.\u00a0The\u00a0goal\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0roof\u00a0was\u00a0to\u00a0sit\u00a0comfortably\u00a0on\u00a0a round\u00a0hut\u00a0of\u00a0stacked\u00a0stones. To\u00a0begin\u00a0I\u00a0was\u00a0not\u00a0sure\u00a0how\u00a0to\u00a0make\u00a0a\u00a0faceted\u00a0structure\u00a0look\u00a0mostly\u00a0round\u00a0and\u00a0to connect\u00a0those\u00a0facets\u00a0attached\u00a0at\u00a0a\u00a0complex\u00a0angle. My\u00a0first\u00a0thought\u00a0was\u00a0to\u00a0use\u00a0Mixel\u00a0ball\u00a0and\u00a0socket\u00a0joints.\u00a0On\u00a0their\u00a0own\u00a0these\u00a0did\u00a0not\u00a0quite have\u00a0the\u00a0range\u00a0of\u00a0rotation\u00a0needed,\u00a0the\u00a0arm\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0ball\u00a0end\u00a0hit\u00a0the\u00a0socket\u00a0sides. Adding\u00a0a\u00a0small\u00a0turntable\u00a0under\u00a0the\u00a0Mixel\u00a0joint\u00a0allows\u00a0for\u00a0some\u00a0added\u00a0rotation\u00a0and\u00a0a\u00a0little forgiving\u00a0float.<\/em><\/p>\n

Here\u00a0is\u00a0the\u00a0completed\u00a0roof\u00a0to\u00a0start\u00a0with\u00a0some\u00a0tile\u00a0and\u00a0studded\u00a0plates\u00a0to\u00a0give\u00a0a\u00a0chunky thatched\u00a0look. The\u00a0grey\u00a0rounds\u00a0extending\u00a0out are a\u00a0column\u00a0of\u00a0smoke.<\/em><\/p>\n

The\u00a0roof\u00a0structure\u00a0before\u00a0detailing\u00a0is\u00a0made\u00a0of\u00a08\u00a0roughly\u00a0triangular\u00a0panels.\u00a0They\u00a0connect at\u00a0the\u00a0top\u00a0to\u00a0an\u00a0octagonal\u00a0modified\u00a0plate\u00a0(with\u00a0bar\u00a0frame).<\/em><\/p>\n

Each\u00a0panel\u00a0is\u00a0constructed\u00a0of\u00a02\u00a03×8\u00a0plate\u00a0wedges,\u00a0a\u00a01×8\u00a0plate\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0center,\u00a0and\u00a02\u00a02×3 plate\u00a0wedges.\u00a0As\u00a0well\u00a0are\u00a0a\u00a0few\u00a0connecting\u00a0plates,\u00a0a\u00a0clip,\u00a0and\u00a0parts\u00a0to\u00a0make\u00a0the\u00a0ball\u00a0and socket\u00a0joints.\u00a0The\u00a02\u00a0small\u00a0plate\u00a0wedges\u00a0are\u00a0overlapped\u00a0to\u00a0make\u00a0a\u00a0single\u00a0stud\u00a0wide\u00a0tip.<\/em><\/p>\n

As\u00a0you\u00a0attach\u00a0the\u00a0panels\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0center,\u00a0the\u00a0turntable\u00a0+\u00a0ball\u00a0and\u00a0socket\u00a0joints\u00a0can\u00a0be added\u00a0to\u00a0span\u00a0and\u00a0connect\u00a0the\u00a0lower\u00a0part\u00a0of\u00a0each\u00a0panel. Note\u00a0that\u00a0each\u00a0panel\u00a0has\u00a0some\u00a0connecting\u00a01x\u00a0plates\u00a0to\u00a0span\u00a0the\u00a0outer\u00a0edge\u00a0dark\u00a0tan 3×8\u00a0wedges\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0center\u00a01×8\u00a0plate.\u00a0One\u00a0solid\u00a0spanning\u00a0plate\u00a0was\u00a0not\u00a0used\u00a0because\u00a0I also\u00a0wanted\u00a0a\u00a0single\u00a0stud\u00a0overhang\u00a0on\u00a0each\u00a0side\u00a0to\u00a0attach\u00a0a\u00a01×1\u00a0round\u00a0(not\u00a0show\u00a0here), filling\u00a0that\u00a0gap\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0end\u00a0(visible\u00a0in\u00a0later\u00a0images).<\/em><\/p>\n

The\u00a04\u00a0blocky\u00a0sections\u00a0of\u00a02×3\u00a0plates\u00a0are\u00a0just\u00a0for\u00a0reinforcement.\u00a0Each\u00a0panel\u00a0could\u00a0not have\u00a0one\u00a0as\u00a0the\u00a0corners\u00a0will\u00a0hit\u00a0one\u00a0another.<\/em><\/p>\n

Originally\u00a0I\u00a0had\u00a0made\u00a0each\u00a0panel\u00a0longer,\u00a0but\u00a0the\u00a0roof\u00a0over\u00a0hung\u00a0my\u00a0hut\u00a0walls\u00a0too\u00a0much. So\u00a0a\u00a0larger\u00a0roof\u00a0can\u00a0be\u00a0made\u00a0with\u00a0more\u00a0or\u00a0larger\u00a0wedge\u00a0plates.\u00a0I\u00a0liked\u00a0how\u00a0the\u00a0corner panels\u00a0were\u00a0well\u00a0filled\u00a0in\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0larger\u00a0roof,\u00a0but\u00a0I\u00a0solved\u00a0the\u00a0gaps\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0edge\u00a0in\u00a0the smaller\u00a0roof. I\u2019m\u00a0not\u00a0sure\u00a0if\u00a0a\u00a0yet\u00a0smaller\u00a0roof\u00a0can\u00a0be\u00a0made\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a02×2\u00a0turntables.\u00a0Without\u00a0the\u00a0center dark\u00a0brown\u00a01×8 plate\u00a0the\u00a0turntables\u00a0hit\u00a0each\u00a0other.\u00a0As\u00a0well\u00a0since\u00a0each\u00a0panel\u00a0is\u00a0an\u00a0odd number\u00a0of\u00a0studs\u00a0wide\u00a0this\u00a0allows\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a01\u00a0stud\u00a0across\u00a0point\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0center.\u00a0Something\u00a0to try.<\/em><\/p>\n

The\u00a0gap\u00a0between\u00a0each\u00a0panel\u00a0is\u00a0not\u00a0too\u00a0large. As\u00a0I\u00a0added\u00a0detail\u00a0pieces\u00a0I\u00a0tried\u00a0to\u00a0cover\u00a0this\u00a0more.<\/em><\/p>\n

To\u00a0save\u00a0a\u00a0bit\u00a0on\u00a0time\u00a0and\u00a0sanity\u00a0I\u00a0decided\u00a0to\u00a0work\u00a0out\u00a02\u00a0detailing\u00a0schemes\u00a0for\u00a0the panels.\u00a0Alternating\u00a0the\u00a02\u00a0sets\u00a0of\u00a0detail\u00a0parts\u00a0looked\u00a0random\u00a0enough\u00a0for\u00a0me.\u00a0The\u00a0roof\u00a0is decently\u00a0sturdy,\u00a0but\u00a0not\u00a0immensely\u00a0so.\u00a0Repeating\u00a0the\u00a0detail\u00a0sped\u00a0up\u00a0finishing\u00a0and overall\u00a0caused\u00a0fewer\u00a0fall-\u00ada-parts\u00a0while\u00a0figuring\u00a0out\u00a0part\u00a0combinations.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

I\u00a0wanted\u00a0the\u00a0roof\u00a0to\u00a0have\u00a0a\u00a0chunky\u00a0edge\u00a0(like\u00a0roof\u00a0thatching)\u00a0and\u00a0something\u00a0to\u00a0breakup the\u00a0octagonal\u00a0lower\u00a0edge\u00a0even\u00a0more.\u00a0Here\u00a0you\u00a0can\u00a0see\u00a0the\u00a0curving\u00a0edges\u00a0I\u00a0added\u00a0with brackets.\u00a0In\u00a0places\u00a0I\u00a0extended\u00a0the\u00a0top\u00a0detail\u00a0over\u00a0these\u00a0edge\u00a0parts\u00a0to\u00a0obscure\u00a0their connection,\u00a0and\u00a0hide\u00a0gaps.<\/em><\/p>\n
