Irregular Base Tutorial

Irregular bases can be a good way of making a creation look more natural. Of course, there are many ways to create an irregular base, but this time, we’ll look at one of the most common:  a wedge plate irregular base.

We’ll start by laying out some plates to get an idea of the shape and size we want. Mixing different size wedge plates helps the edge look more organic

To keep the border looking tidy, you want to avoid blocky steps, as shown in the example below.

Once you have your rough shape figured out, you can continue with another layer of plates being sure to overlap things to keep a sturdy base. Some larger plates in the middle also help with that.

After finishing the other two sides, we just need to fill in the gaps with standard plates.

And now you have an irregular base to build off of.
