Chima Ice Bear Tribe Review

The Ice Bear Tribe Pack is one of several Chima battle packs that have been released over the past few years. It retails for $10 which is quite a good price for 3 fully equipped minifigures. As you would expect from the name,  it focuses on the Ice Bear Tribe and includes 3 warriors with banner, weapons, armor, and a mobile disk shooter. The box features some neat ice graphics that contrast well with the fiery banner across the top.

The rear of the box advertises the Saber Tooth battle pack and the Tiger’s Mobile Command that you can combine with this set for a larger scale battle.

2

Inside, there are two bags of parts, an instruction manual, and the ice bear printed banner.

3

Since it is a battle pack, there aren’t a whole lot of parts included, but there are still some pretty nifty ones.

The banner is quite impressive with its ragged edges, and fearsome bear insignia. The 1×4 disk launcher is a great ‘missile launcher’ part. Lightsaber hilts are always useful for building, and the set comes with one standard bley and one reddish brown with sideways connections on top. The 2×2 plate with studs is an incredibly helpful part for SNOT connections.

The highly detailed minifigs are the main draw of the set though. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the figs all have unique heads, torsos, legs, and masks.

The banner stand consists of a 4×4 round brick with 2x2x2 cone for the base, and uses hammers to hold the flag in position.

Construction of the mobile disk launcher is quite straightforward.

13

A few brackets provide attachment points for the front detailing.

14

And finished and ready to go! The launcher is rather blocky for my tastes, and has very little ground clearance. However it is quite sturdy and the launcher works well, easily knocking over minifigures.

19

Some small barricades finish out the set.

17

Extra parts, the 2×2 round tiles and white 1×1 round plates are ammo for the disk and stud launcher.

The set value is excellent with some useful parts included plus the three ice bear warriors. If you like Chima figs, you should be well pleased with this set. If you’re looking for a fun playable little set, this is a great choice. However, if you would like an involved building process, or a good parts pack, this probably isn’t the best choice.
