Yellow Castle Revamp: Build Log

A look behind the scenes of what went into creating my Yellow Castle Revamp.

The first thing I did was make the base, which consisted of 4 hinging 8×16 sections, 2 on each side, which hinged off of a 16×32 section in the middle. Then I put in the drawbridge.

Next, I figured out what sort of wall texture I wanted, and where to put the arrow slits and towers. I decided on spots of SNOT medium dark flesh tiles, dark tan plate texturing, and tan log bricks.

More wall building, and also adding the archway over the drawbridge. I had to be careful when attaching SNOT tiles to make sure it didn’t get in the way of each section hinging correctly.

I wanted to have a blacksmith shop and a stables inside the castle, though with the towers and hinging wall sections it was a little bit tricky finding places to put them. It worked best putting them in the back, on either side of the main tower, so I went with that.

I wanted the drawbridge to be fully functional, so I had to figure out a mechanism for that, and also started putting on the wall walks and battlements.

9

I finished the two towers and main keep, but still had the blacksmith shop, stables, two sections of wall on the back, and courtyard detailing left.

After finishing off those few things, adding a tree and some figs, it was done!:
