Creations of 2016

It’s hard to believe how quickly 2016 went by, and yet how much was done in it. John started the year in an elimination round based contest called The Tourney. The contest really pushed him to improve with each build, and he progressed to the semi-finals. Looking back, he is still quite fond of many of those builds. Later we both competed in the MOCathalon along with Kai NRG, Garmadon, and W. Navarre. We came incredibly close to winning, but ended up missing the prized first place by just one point. Last year was also the first year of the Summer Joust, which we organized along with several other castle builders. It was a very popular contest with 130 entries from 70 contestants.

Possibly the biggest highlight of the year for us though, was going to our first ever LEGO convention: Brickfair Virginia. It was a blast and we got to meet a lot of incredible MOCers in person for the first time, including many of our fellow InnovaLUG members. We contributed to the Ye Old Merry Battleground display and brought home two brickees: Best Castle (for our Life in Nordheim display) and Best Medium Spacecraft (for Isaac’s Scorpion Starfighter). John also won The Hulkbuster Smash set in a National Park contest for which he built Meridian Hill Park.

We also were able to participate in several RochLUG displays. The last major event of the year was the annual Colossal Castle Contest for which we built 22 entries! 5 of those were blogged on The Brothers Brick, and throughout the year some of our other MOCs were also featured there, and on Bricknerd, Classic-castle, TilesorStuds, and Eurobricks. John reached 1000 followers on flickr, while Isaac now has 1700+.

So thanks to everyone for your supports and comments! Especially Roanoke and Hildigrim, our most faithful commenters.

Here are some collages showing Isaac’s top builds of the 55+ he created in 2016:
